Expelled...

Maybe not a great date night movie, but nevertheless, I'm excited to see this... I've heard three people say that it's great!

Fun on the Farm...

Friday was a fun and eventful day around here... I was able to join Aaron for his field trip to the farm! It was so much fun! My "city boy" loved it!!! :)

Aaron was thrilled that the day started with a ride on the bus... and that he, Emma, and Maddy got the back seat (the "bumpiest seat", he informed me later!) I thought this was a good idea... the preschool rented a real bus, so that the kiddos could practice getting on and off in preparation for kindergarten. Parents weren't allowed!Let the fun begin! This is Aaron's good buddy, Emma. So cute... when I said, "Hey, get together so that I can take a picture", THIS is what happened...Romeo strikes again! This was on the hayride (I thought that I didn't have to worry about this until middle school?!!) Anyway, he and Maddy were holding hands behind Emma's back... oh my, oh my. Again, I'm just holding my breath, reminding myself that the cootie-stage is coming. However, we did have a little talk the other day when he announced that he has kissed both Maddy and Emma "on the lips." WHAT?!! Yes, yes, yes.... we talked about appropriate hugs being a better idea...Aaron LOVED the pony ride! My sweet, wild child informed me that riding without hands was a great idea!
Aaron made me laugh on the farm tour... he loved being up front and interacting with our tour guide! The funniest part of the day... the kids were all surrounding this angora bunny and the lady asked if any of them knew what this animal is. Of course, everyone in the circle shouted, "A bunny!".... except MY child who shouted at the top of his lungs, "A CAT!" Oh my goodness... his mom must have never been in 4-H! :) -Sidenote: for those of you who don't know me well... I grew up on a farm and showed pigs, cattle, and sheep in 4-H! So cool... this baby goat was born that morning while the kids were on their way to the farm, so he is less than two hours old in this picture!
You can't tell... but Aaron was milking the goat in this picture... so much concentration (especially since the baby goat had already drained momma dry! Poor momma...)
This was the most friendly donkey I've ever seen! My only interaction with donkeys before was to hook them up to our beef steers to "break" them for showing purposes. This guy loved having his head petted!
Aaron and his second preschool class

So, there you have it... more farm pictures than you probably ever wanted to see!!! I was very impressed with the family on this farm; they did an amazing job with the kids. Also, Friday was such a huge reminder to me that it is so important that we are already intentional about planning one-on-one time with each of our kids. After the farm, Aaron and I had a picnic with friends, went to the grocery store, got a haircut, and shared a Frosty together... all while Isaac was with Scott (they had a great morning of one-on-one time, too!) Aaron was very happy to have his momma all to himself... and I loved every minute of our time, too!

Anyone got my name?

Interesting...

How many have your name?

Thankful Thursday

Today, I am thankful....

1) For the fact that I've discovered that the two trees in my yard (planted by the builder...) are actually FLOWERING trees! Hoorah! I don't know what they are yet, but they are flowering now! What a fun surprise this spring!
2) For temps in the 70s... perfect, ideal! :)
3) For oven bags, whole chickens, and McCormicks Grill Mates chicken rub. Seriously, so easy.... so yummy. It almost compares with rotisserie chicken from the store (not Nelson's though.... nothing compares with Nelson's! BOO!) It's in the oven now and smells fabulous!
4) For some of the encouraging comments that have been left on this blog over the past 4 months.... thank you!
5) For the fact that the book, Dangerous Surrender, is stretching me in huge ways!

Have a fabulous day! Much love!

The welcome wagon

Dear Spring,

We would like to officially welcome you to Buffalo. With the deepest sincerity, we are thankful that you have arrived and would like to invite you to stay for a long time. You have allowed us to begin to meet our neighbors and their children. You have also allowed the boys of the house to enjoy the gorgeous new playground on the lake in our development, and we've also enjoyed many, many bike rides as a family thanks to you. While Ollie's shedding is a bit of an inconvenience because of your arrival, we have been able to tolerate it and would still like for you to stick around. Again, thank you for coming.

Sincerely,
Scott, Deanna, Aaron, and Isaac

Just a few more....

I was looking through some things this morning and ran across two more pictures from the zoo. Check out this baby rhino. Isn't he cute?!! I never knew a baby rhino could be cute (you should see him run!) Aaron was intrigued by the fact that he didn't have a horn yet and asked why. I simply said, "Ug.... to protect the mommy rhino during birth." Yikes.... thankfully, that answer was enough for Aaron, and he moved onto the next topic!

The Bandits!

We ended up having a great time at the Bandits game on Saturday night. Seriously, if you ever get a chance to go to a professional Lacrosse game, do it! It was so much fun.... kind of like hockey on foot.... with a lot of "checking" (our favorite part, of course!) and a lot of physical contact. It's amazing how athletic those guys are (I think that they probably run more than soccer players!)

We didn't end up finding a sitter for Isaac (neither of the girls returned my calls.... boo!) Anyway, he ended up loving the game, and thankfully, it went just fine. A man from our church VERY generously paid for our tickets and parking and let us sit in his suite/box, too. It was very fun.... and we felt very spoiled! A few of the other pastors and staff from The Chapel were there, too, so we had a great time just hanging out with everybody!

Isaac and Zach (one of the worship pastor's kids) during the pre-game party!
Our little bandit...Aaron and Little David (Scott's boss' son.... Aaron LOVES this guy!)
Isaac with Jerry, our Senior Pastor And with Darlene (Scott's boss' wife) Isaac LOVES her and was perfectly content on her lap for a couple of minutes.... that's a long time for a 23-month old!

Let the dance party begin! So funny, during all of the music during the game (and there was a lot of it!) the boys had a dance party. Some of the older boys were saying, "Go Isaac, go Isaac...." at this point. However, a few minutes later, they were busy doing something else, so Isaac started cheering for himself, "Go Isaac, go Isaac...."

Record Setters....

Well, yesterday was a monumental day here in Buffalo.... we set a new record high in temp. It was some 87 or 88ish degrees! Hotter than ANY place, city, or beach in Florida, folks! Who says that Buffalo isn't a rockin' hot place to be?!! (or maybe it really is just global warming.... nah, after the winter we just lived through, I'm not so convinced about the global warming thang!) :)

Sidenote: I saw a woman at Aldi yesterday who completely looked like a lobster. I thought maybe she had just flown in from sunny Florida but heard her tell another customer that it was just from laying out in BUFFALO all day the day before.

Yep, it's been confirmed.... there really are seasons other than winter.... now, if someone would just tell our grass that spring has arrived! It looks more like a desert than a lush lawn.... it was seeded in the fall before we owned the home; however, it never took off without someone to take care of it. The builder will re-seed it at some point, but we just got a letter saying that they make no promises about when. Boo! If it weren't for two boys and a dog, it wouldn't be a huge deal.... I know it's just grass.... however, when little boys want a place to play and a big dog needs a place to potty, it gets pretty old pretty quick!

Can't wait....

This documentary is from my hometown.... and some of these kids were our kids (maybe I shouldn't admit that until I've seen the film!) Check out the trailer.....

The Buffalo Zoo

We have a zoo pass/membership from Indiana that expires at the end of the month, so we were excited to try out the Buffalo Zoo before our time was up (the pass transfers to many zoos all over the country). We had a great time at the zoo.... great to enjoy the 78 degree day!

One of my favorite conversations from the day:

Aaron: Ooh, what's that smell?
Scott: Buddy, the animals don't have toilet paper.
Aaron: Oh.

Many fun critters....

Mama and baby...Simba!

A little emotion...

.... okay, a lot of emotion. Just going to have a little rant here on my blog for a moment. Consider yourself warned.....

I'm sad. And I actually feel a little (okay, a lot) overwhelmed. The initiator: trying to find a new babysitter in a new city. I miss grandma and grandpa. I miss my sister. I miss teens whom we have known for years. I miss incredible student ministry volunteers who also love my kids. I miss dear couples who do "date night swaps." I miss incredible neighbors.

Therefore, I miss being able to pick up the phone and call someone whom I completely trust with my kids. Scott and I wanted to take Aaron to the Bandits game this weekend and have a sitter for Isaac (it's going to be a late night... and a game in a stadium box seemed like it would be a little overwhelming for an almost 2-year old). However, who to call? We have a few names from another couple in our LifeLinks group.... and while I COMPLETELY trust their judgment, I COMPLETELY feel overwhelmed about leaving my baby with a COMPLETE stranger. I actually can't stop the tears right now.... I miss Indiana. I miss the "known." I miss being "known." I miss people who adore my kids, who I know love on them when I'm not around.

BUT.... I also miss date nights terribly.... we NEED a date night terribly. And, I guess we have to start somewhere....

Okay, I'm done....

Oh, so cute!

I've decided that there is nothing cuter than a little one enjoying bathtime! Check out these adorable shots of Isaac!

In other news, this sweet kiddo is developing a lot of new words each day. It's so, so fun. Yesterday, I walked around the corner to see him "reading" Goodnight Moon.... sitting on the floor.... saying, "Nigh-night, asdjfksalea.... nigh-night sadfdasfiwe." Adorable....

Thankful Thursday

Today, I am thankful....

1) For the weather! It's 71, sunny, and GORGEOUS here today. There really are seasons besides winter in Buffalo! :)
2) For fun weekend plans. Scott takes Fridays off, so our weekend officially starts tonight. We're planning to enjoy the zoo tomorrow, small group tomorrow night, and we were invited to try out a "Bandits" game on Saturday night (who knew that Buffalo has a professional LaCrosse team.... I know NOTHING about LaCrosse.... just that we should wear orange and black on Saturday!)
3) For a great two weeks with my family. It's been nice to have extended time with Aaron.... he didn't have school last week, of course, because we pulled him out to go to Florida, and his actual spring break is this week around here, so we've had a great week....
4) For playdates! One of the girls from LifeLinks (AKA small group) invited us over today and we had a blast. Also, Scott and his team organized a playdate at The Chapel for moms and kids on Tuesday and Wednesday; we had a great time.
5) For the current sermon series at The Chapel. Jerry's messages have been stretching me in HUGE ways....

Have a blessed day!

HA!

Okay, so I guess I'm being boring today.... but I'm linking to another blog today. THIS made me laugh today.... really, really laugh. Having worked in youth ministry for years and years and years, there is SO much truth to the post....

Bumper stickers

I loved this post from Karen Ehman.... very, very good.

"Dangerous Surrender" Invitation...

Awhile back, I blogged about the awesome book that I've just started, Dangerous Surrender. After hearing from a couple of people, I've decided to start a little book study via email. We're basically just going to be emailing back and forth about what we're learning and how we're being transformed throughout the pages of the book.

Just wanted to extend the invitation.... if anyone else would like to join us for this informal study, just leave me a comment to let me know! We'd love to have you! I'm certain that God is going to use the pages of this book to stretch and mold us beyond what we can even imagine.

Florida 2008!

Well, I transferred this week's pictures to the computer.... all 359 of them! Yes, it was a fantastic week! It went by way too quickly, but we did try to savor every moment!

Since I'm not as good at this slideshow thing as my friend Krista, I can't quite figure out how to post text.... so I'll just go ahead and tell you who you are seeing if you choose to watch, in case you are wondering! We spent the fabulous week with my parents, my sis and her family (Shawn, Dawn, Abby, and Zach), my grandparents, and my great-aunt.

Shout to the Lord....

Just in case anyone in my blogging world didn't get a chance to see this clip from American Idol last week, I thought I'd post it. I watched with tears....

Interesting how God is breaking through in the media, isn't it? Dateline, Oprah, The Today Show with the mistaken identity case.... now this....

Lord, may your name be praised!

We're home!

Just a quick update.... we're home.... we had an amazing time in Florida.... everything went great with our flights....the week went much too quickly.... we love my family.... and we wish we could go back tomorrow!

I'll certainly be posting more soon.... with dozens of pictures of course!!! :)

Silly...

I love my happy, silly boys!

Sidenote: please notice how much our kiddos look like their daddy in these pictures! :)

Interesting.... and fun....

I just found a new blog, and I think I like it. I can't say that I echo every statement made, but nearly every post made me think.... or made me laugh (I must say... I prefer the ones that made me laugh!) I like that. If you have a few extra minutes, check it out HERE.

Here's one thing that I find intriguing.... many believers and non-believers are finding this site; something intriguing to me are comments like this one:

"No offense to anyone reading this, but if I weren't an atheist, I'd strive to be this kind of Christian" (in regards to the author of the blog). Yep, intriguing...

Thankful Thursday...

Well, I should be cleaning and packing.... but instead, I'm posting, of course!!!

Today, I am thankful....

1) That we leave for FLORIDA SOON!!! Hoorah.... can't wait for some warmth, some sun, some laughter, some Mickey, and a whole lot of great family time!
2) That it was "Spa Day" at MOPS today. My hands are the softest that they've EVER been! I had a WONDERFUL paraffin wax, and then an amazing hand massage using Satin Hands products (the lady who gave me the hand massage was amazing.... I loved chatting with her and getting to know her, too!) And they even had a chocolate fountain! Wonderful, wonderful!
3) There were also great giveaways today at MOPS.... friends, you need to know that I NEVER win the giveaways.... however, today was my BIG day. I WON $250 worth of interior painting work.... yes, you read that right.... $250!!!! What a perfect time for me to win.... I'm ready to get rid of my WHITE walls!!!!!!!!! Hip-hip-hoorah!!!!!!!!!!!! :)
4) Scott is feeling better, and the boys and I have managed to avoid it, I think!!! Isaac had a touch of a cold this week, but I think that was a present from the church nursery!
5) The sun is out today.... it's in the 50s.... I am thankful....

Love ya!

A little laugh....

It's getting late.... my house is quiet.... I should be folding laundry.... but this made me laugh instead. Check it out.

Hey, pet lovers....

Go to THIS SITE and fill out a short survey to get a $4 off Purina coupon.

Chili Cook-off?!!

Okay, blog friends.... I need your help!!! My hubby and I both really like chili, but I'm ready to try something new. The recipe that I make often is very soupy and not very thick and yummy. So, today when he requested chili from Wendy's, I thought that I would make a request on my blog: Does anyone have a tried and true, yummy chili recipe? Would you please be willing to share it in my comment section? THANKS!!! I know that I could always just google it and search that way, but I'd rather hear from you!

The month in review

Okay.... so it's April Fool's Day, and I can't come up with anything creative to pull on you, my dear blog reader. The best I could come up with is the joke that I'm pregnant or that we're moving again, but I figured that isn't very creative.... and might give some of my friends and family members a heart attack (or at least indigestion when they figured out it was a joke....)

So, to be a little kinder today.... I just looked back at all our pictures from the month of March instead and pulled out a few gems that I didn't blog about over the past month....

First, pics of my little helper! To all you moms out there: if you don't have a feather duster, you should get one! Both of my boys have LOVED being a little helper! :)

We have a PHENOMENAL recipe for homemade pretzels that are Daddy's specialty here. We don't make them too often, but when we do, it makes for a fun evening (and a WHOLE lot of extra calories!)
Aaron made a new discovery this month: workout/aerobics videos. Oh my goodness.... I should have known that he would LOVE them with as physical as this kiddo is! We laughed one night, saying that one day he'll be a fitness trainer and when people ask him how he got started, he'll say, "Well, I remember when I did my first workout video....I was 5, and I loved working up a sweat.... while my parents sat on the couch behind me and watched!" HA! Truth be told.... we did a few of the workouts with him.... REALLY (but I think we got a better workout watching him and giggling instead!)

On St. Patrick's Day... with their new coordinating shirts.
Hope that April is a terrific month for each of you! It's hard to believe that we're actually approaching a new season in Buffalo.... for awhile, it felt like winter would be the only season we'd ever experience here! :)
