Love and marriage....

Our church just wrapped up a great series on marriage and relationships. During his message yesterday, Scott shared an amazing clip from Robert McQuilken who served as a president of a university and resigned as the needs of his wife grew. This clip is so moving and inspiring to me. I told Scott, "Every woman in the world wants to know that she is loved like this...."

I WANT TO LOVE LIKE THIS.....

sacrificially....

forever....

Oh dear....

Someone in our house has decided it would be fun to gnaw on the nunchuk for our Wii. We haven't yet determined who is guilty.

I was just telling Isaac that I thought it might have been Ellie, and his response:

"No, I don't think that it was Ellie. I think that it was somebody in China."

When I laughed, he then said, "Well, or maybe Florida...."

Like father, like son!

This is one of my favorite pictures of Scott and Aaron EVER! LOVE these two! Could their smiles be any bigger?!?!?
So, what's your vote? Do they look alike or not?

My favorite question these days....

I've been somewhat amazed. Over the past couple of weeks, I have been asked NUMEROUS times....

"So, is this your first?"

Um.... no. No, it is not.

Thankful Thursday....

Today, I am thankful....

1) That Scott is an amazing, amazing, AMAZING parenting partner. We have had a difficult 24 hours with one of our kiddos, navigating some new waters. Add another snow day on top of that, and Scott was well aware that his beloved wife may snap at any second in the day. My sweet man sent me these words this morning, in response to these circumstances, "....not easy for sure...but this is the part of parenting we signed up for...even when we had NO IDEA what we were getting into. Growing kids God's way isn't just a book title...it's our mandate. One I am blessed to be on with you." This man certainly challenges me and encourages me in this journey, and I am grateful.
2) That I actually did NOT snap today.... and had a great day with my kids!
3) That spring break will be here in 5 weeks.... we are ready!
4) For every movement of this sweet little babe. I really do cherish each one!
5) For the great talent on American Idol this year. I love a great voice.... and there certainly are some great ones this year! ;)

Have a blessed day! And if you live on my part of the map, stay safe as this storm hits!! :)

"Hyperparenting"

Ooh, I loved THIS POST from Jill Savage today. Such good perspective and full of great reminders...

One of my favorite lines from the post:

"Create margin. BOREDOM NEEDS TO BE THE GOAL OF PARENTS. Unscheduled time encourages children to create and imagine. It helps them to learn how to fill their time rather than expect others to entertain them."

From the mouths of babes....

I just shared this story with a friend on her blog and realized that it was a funny mothering moment that I didn't want to forget....

Mondays are Scott's day off, and Isaac also had the day off for President's Day. Scott and I were playing "Clue" with him (notice: a VERY adapted version, making the game appropriate for a four year old.... not the good ol' "Professor Plum murdered so and so in the Study with a Rope" version!) If you know the game, you know that there is a "Mrs. Peacock" and there is also a red game piece that is "Mrs. Scarlet." At the end of the game, Isaac picked up the red piece and shouted:

"OH! There is Mrs. Redcock!"

Also, throughout the game, Isaac and I called Scott, "Mrs. Pee-cup". Yep, definitely good for a laugh!

It may not be funny to anyone else, but it sure was funny to me at the moment! ;)

Flashback Friday....

So, I was out with the girls last night, and there was mention about the days when we moved with our sweet 6 week old girlie. As I drove home, I was reflecting on the past 1 1/2 years and really was in a bit of awe. Totally grateful for the way that God has carried us. Totally grateful for His provision. Totally grateful for His presence. This morning, in the attitude of reflection, I read back on some old posts.... like this one from my hubby.... and this one that includes some of these pictures:

Yep, feeling pretty grateful on this Friday....

Thankful Thursday....

Today, I am thankful....

1) That most of the time, my husband usually "gets me" (or at least fakes the fact that he "gets me"). Whether it's a good day or a bad day, whether my hormones are in check or totally on a pregnancy roller coaster.... he's a pretty patient guy with me, and I am thankful.
2) That I have some friends in my life who "get me."
3) That my washer and dryer are working. To be honest, I have really been coveting those big ol' mammoth amazing washer and dryers recently (I think baby #4 must do that to a momma!) SOOOOO today, I am CHOOSING to be thankful that my washer and dryer are working just fine and will focus on THAT instead!
4) That my kiddos go to bed pretty easily on most nights. Ellie was an awful sleeper as an itty bitty baby; now, she is amazing. I am grateful.
5) That God loves me, regardless of my mood! :)

Have a blessed day! Much love!

"Oh, there you are....."

It's no secret.

If you have some history with our family, you probably know that we love the movie, "Hook." It's a holiday "go-to" for some reason at our house. We love to watch it after we've baked chocolate chip cookies and set up the Christmas tree every year.

It's also no secret to my husband that THIS is one of my favorite scenes in the movie.

So, you may be asking, "Deanna, what does that have to do with anything in February?!" I'm getting there....

I just returned from an awesome, awesome weekend in Chicago with my terrific husband, and I often found myself thinking as I looked at him across the table at a fabulous dinner at one of the fabulous restaurants we visited.... or as we enjoyed every minute of our four hour drive in the car, talking the entire time.... or as he shared with me from his morning devotions in the hotel room.... or as I heard him laugh more loudly than anyone else in the movie theater....

"Oh, there you are...."

Things are good at home. We adore our children. My husband loves his job. We do find times of connection (often once the kiddos are all tucked in at night!)

But there is just something about pulling away from the madness.... "unplugging from the matrix", as my darling husband likes to call it....

And it was good.

And I often thought, "Oh, there you are....." as I looked into my husband's eyes.

The man that I met in July of 1994 and cherished from the moment that I met him.

The man that kissed me for the first time in December of 1995.

The man who proposed to me in August of 1996.

And the man who entered into a covenant relationship with me on August 16, 1997.

And I looked at myself this weekend and said, "Oh, there you are, too...."

More than a tired and worn out pregnant momma.

A bride.

A bride who loves her husband.

Wow, getaways are good. So, so good for some perspective and reflection....

Our little snow bunny....

Last winter, we captured this gorgeous picture of Ellie which is still one of my favorites.
Yesterday, when it was beautiful and sunny out, we decided to attempt to recreate the pic a year later. Thought that you might enjoy seeing the result of our little photo shoot!

Perspective....

Jill Savage posts great quotes on her blog every Friday. Today's was exceptional, I think....

“Circumstances do not control you; Jesus does. You never have to be the victims of your feelings. You can choose to look to God and listen, learn and move ahead. Disappointments are inevitable, discouragement is a choice.”

~Charles Stanley

Keeping it real....

So.... I just read a blog post that got me thinking about "keeping it real" in the blogging world. Now, it's so much easier to just post the beautiful pictures of my kids (you know, after the boogers are all cleaned off their faces), but in honor of keeping it real and being authentic in the journey, I present to you...

The fact that I have two nasty, dirty towels staring at me from my kitchen sink. They should be in the laundry, but they are by the sink instead.

The fact that I STILL have boxes in the office waiting for me to unpack them. Folks, we moved in June. Geez.... for the love.

The fact that I am a PILE person as it relates to my kitchen counter. I think I need therapy for this one (and I think my hubby would agree!)

The fact that I am 24 weeks pregnant and still drank two cups of caffeinated pop tonight at a girls' night out.... and I may be up until 2 AM!

The fact that I count down to rest time in the afternoon at my house EVERY SINGLE DAY.

The fact that I sat on the edge of my bed this morning, wondering if there will ever be a day when I don't feel tired (did I mention that I am 24 weeks pregnant with our fourth?!)

The fact that my husband and I had a doozy of a fight this morning.... and he is preaching on marriage this week at church. Sigh.....

The fact that three baskets of laundry are in my laundry room taunting me and are just waiting to be folded and put away (but I am blogging and checking facebook instead!)

The fact that I hold it together, hold it together, hold it together, and then LOSE it with my little cherubs far more times than I can probably count some weeks.

The fact that I am four years behind on my family scrapbooks.

The fact that I would still love to go and buy more scrapbooking supplies anyway.

The fact that I could fill pages and pages of this blog with true confessions about what life really looks like on most days.

And the absolute fact that I am saved by grace through faith, and I would be nothing without the Cross of Christ. Wow, I need Him....

Thankful Thursday (a little late....)

Today, I am thankful....

1) For a great OB appointment today. It's always so reassuring to have a competent doc and to hear that sweet, little heartbeat!
2) For the fun of SNOW. We've gotten a lot this week, and our kiddos are loving it!
3) For the beauty of sunshine + snow!
4) For our wonderful and warm home. We are loving the home that God provided for our family; it is such a great fit for our family!
5) For an upcoming getaway with my hubby! The hotel is booked, the childcare is arranged, and I am excited for a few nights away with Scott!

Have a blessed day and a great weekend! :)
