What?!!

I saw this on my friend Cathy's blog, and it left me speechless. See for yourself....

CRASH!

Wednesday night, I experienced a "mommy moment" that I'd prefer to never have to experience again, but I am sure that it will happen many, many times over my lifetime. The mommy moment was this: watching my child experience something that was going to cause injury without having any ability to stop it from happening. We were at the park, and I was pushing Isaac on the merry-go-round (it's adorable.... little horses on it.... almost like a little carousel!) We had done it numerous times without any problems. Then, it happened....

Of course, when he was on the opposite side from me, I watched Isaac lose his balance and face plant OFF of the merry-go-round. Ug.... it really felt like it happened in slow motion.... I just couldn't get to him before his face connected with the dirt. Thankfully, the injury wasn't life-threatening.... just a lot of mud in the nose and mouth and this boo-boo under his nose. It's so sad to see ouchies on this precious little face!

Birthday Boy...

Just a few fun shots from our very fun day yesterday! Aren't they ALL handsome?!!
The boys and I couldn't wait for presents.... so this was the wake up call yesterday morning! Notice: Isaac decided to steal one of daddy's presents (yum)!!! :)
He was crazy about the cake, too!

Weekend flashback....

I just stole this picture from my sister's Facebook because I love it!!! Aaron, Abby, and Zach (two of his cousins) were just being silly! It was great.... while we were there, the kiddos and Aunt Debby stayed for a slumber party at mom and dad's!!! So fun!

Thankful Thursday...

Today, I am thankful....

FOR MY HUSBAND!!!! Today is Scott's birthday.... and we had a great day celebrating! Presents before he left for work; lunch at Uno Pizza (at his request); stromboli sandwiches and birthday cake tonight!!! Scott Greene.... you are so loved.... we are so proud of you.... and we're so glad you are OURS!!! :)

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!

Oh, those MEAN 2-year olds....

Oh my. It must just be torture to be the BIG brother as these words just came from Aaron's mouth this morning:

"Isaac is always mean. He drank my juice once in Indiana, now he messed up my fort, and he was ALWAYS mean to me in Indiana."

Oh, you mean when he couldn't even walk or talk? Got it.

Finally.....

.... uploaded pictures to the computer from the camera. We had a great couple of days in Indiana. Scott and the preschool director (+ one teacher!) had a great tour at Presby Preschool and got a lot of great new ideas. We had a great time with friends and family in Warsaw. I called it "therapy".... it was JUST what I needed.... just too short!!! :)

A true Ironman....

Okay, I am fully aware of the fact that I am posting two videos in one day.... but this one is too good to not share. I am guessing that most all of my blog readers have heard of "Team Hoyt".... even if you have, go ahead and check this out. What a demonstration of love....

Anita Renfroe is at it again.....

Because I posted it here and loved Anita Renfroe's "Momsense" video so much, I thought I should share this one, too.... giving dads equal time!!!

Side note: this video does not pertain WHATSOEVER to my husband. Scott is a terrific dad.... a very involved dad.... and I say the words, "What did your daddy say?" as often as he says the words, "What did your mommy say?" in our home (so as to present a united front to our kiddos.... one of which would love to be able to play us against each other. Doesn't work in our house.... and Aaron already knows it). I'm truly thankful that Scott is a great husband and father.... love ya, honey!

We're home.... we're great.... we're busy!

Wow, it's been quite a few days since I posted. It's been a fun couple of days.... we're doing great.... I'll post more soon, REALLY!!!

Here's a picture that I stole from Angie's blog that made me laugh after we encountered gas prices in the $4ish range during our road trip.... UG!

Indiana, here we come!!!

I'm so excited! We are leaving at 2:00 today for a quick trip to Indiana! So cool.... Scott wanted to take our preschool director to check out Aaron's old preschool, and I asked if the boys and I could tag along!!! We are headed back to NY on Saturday, but it will still be awesome to see family.... and we even get to have a quick visit with the Schmitt's and the McCleary's, too!!! YIPPE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Since we're not going to be able to catch everyone this time around, hey Hoosiers.... we'll be back again for TWO WEEKS at the end of June! Hope to see you then!!!

The other BIG news: we have GRASS SEED IN OUR YARD!!! YIPPE #2!

All graded, smoothed, raked, and ready to go....This may not be a very good picture, but it was definitely a welcome sight to us! The hydro-seed guy! YIPPE! (fyi: the trailer in the background is not my neighbor's house; it's a construction trailer that will be removed once the neighborhood is finished!) Let the watering begin (thankfully, our neighbors offered to help a bit while we are gone, and I think that the weather-folks are calling for a bit of rain today and tomorrow, too!)

Letting you in on a little secret....

.... sometimes, JUST sometimes..... I have a hard time taking off my "counseling hat." Last night in the restaurant at Carrabba's was one of those times. Here's the scene....

One woman standing at the sink crying, washing hands.
One lady, beside her, practically yelling, "As your sister, it's obviously not working for you to just wash your hands of him. You've tried that; it doesn't work. It doesn't work for you. It doesn't work for the kids. You need to talk to someone."

Okay.... so that was an obvious one.... a part of my heart is stirred even in odd public places, desiring to reach out and help. At that instant, I just wanted to say, "Hey, dear sweet crying woman, would you like to go have a cup of chai and chat?"

To all my precious friends who are saying, "Yeah, I WISH you would just take off the counseling hat more often, girl." Forgive me.... it's sometimes hard. And know that I am NOT always pulling the psychology stuff out.... no worries.... I don't ALWAYS have on the hat (my first Christmas after I started my Masters, I did always have on the hat.... all apologies to my family for that one.... I thought I had you it all figured out and then quickly realized, that I will NEVER have it all figured out! That's why the best counselors in the world are the ones who are completely aware of the fact that they do NOT have all the answers but intimately know the ONE who does!!! If you ever go to a counselor who arrogantly approaches you as if he or she has all the answers, STOP! There is someone BETTER out there....)

So.... what got me thinking about all of this? This great post.

And.... if you're reading this and were crying in the bathroom at Carrabba's last night.... I would love to have a cup of chai with you....

We love YouTube!

Just one little example of why we love YouTube at our house. If my kids are grumpy, I just find a silly baby online, and this is the result....

Parenting Perspective...

One blessing after our move was the fact that I was able to jump right into a MOPS group. I felt incredibly encouraged by some of the teachers who came into lead us, and two comments, in particular, have really stuck with me. Thought I'd share them...

"Remember that you are raising your grandchildrens' parents." (Oh my goodness, never thought of it that way.... I just appreciate that simple perspective as it reminds me that these little boys will one day be big, adult men!)

"We grow impatient with our children because we expect for them to act like adults. They are not adults... they are CHILDREN."

I am a spoiled girl...

Wow, what a morning. We were so blessed at The Chapel this morning as Paul Baloche led worship!!! WOA! Our church hosted a conference over the weekend for worship leaders.... Paul was a part of that training. He had a concert last night and stuck around to lead worship this morning. Seriously, God is using this guy in a mighty way.... I felt like such a spoiled girl as I was in the room as Paul led us into the presence of God this morning. To God be the glory!

Thankful Thursday.... on a Saturday!

Today, I am thankful...

1) For Gerber daisies! This is the first year that I've potted Gerber daisies, although I've loved them for years! However, because I was SO tired of looking at plain ol' dirt surrounding my house, I decided I needed a bright splash of color this year.... and it was worth paying a touch extra for my pots this year! They are beautiful!
2) For THIS stage of parenting with Aaron. On most days, I am LOVING the 5-year old stage!!! No, it's not perfect, but it's really so, so fun! We were at at small group gathering last night, and it was so fun to hear Aaron interacting with the adults. He has always been so verbal and so expressive.... and a very fun story-teller!
3) That the Bobcat showed up to spread our dirt yesterday and today! Hoorah! Bring on the grass (no, we don't have seed yet, but should have some soon)! We've also had two offers to help us water while we are gone next week if we do get seed before we leave. Such a blessing!
4) For an awesome family day yesterday.... FULL of activity! We were at the preschool's picnic at the park from 11:00 - 1:30; then, one of the other pastors and his wife invited us over for a visit from 4 - 6; then, it was off to our LifeLinks group from 6:30 until bed. It was so fun to see the boys enjoying every minute; they are social butterflies, just like mama and papa! :)
5) For a DATE NIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yes, friends, you read that correctly..... we found a sitter for tomorrow night (thank you, Betsy!) We don't know what we're going to do yet, but I'm certain we'll enjoy every minute!

Married to a children's pastor....

So, Jessica recently passed along a link to the Married to a Youth Pastor blog. I've been LOVING it (thanks, Jess!)

This post, in particular, really made me laugh (oh, I can SO relate!)

Ode to the dirt...

Oh pile of dirt,
Oh pile of dirt,
We are so glad to see you...
Oh pile of dirt,
Oh pile of dirt,
We are so glad to see you!

Why are we excited, you might ask? Well, my dear friends, this means we are next in line to have our yard filled, raked, and reseeded! Hoorah! Say it with me now: Yea for grass! Yea for grass!

Our little graduate!

Hoorah for Aaron! We had such a fun morning at Aaron's preschool graduation! "Wee Cherub" has been a great fit for him, has definitely helped him in his transition after the move, and he's made a lot of sweet friends in the process.

With his terrific teacher, Mrs. Perrello Aaron and a few more of the gals (Katie, Minchae, and Risa!)After receiving his "diploma"
Singing out with Emma again!
Okay, so I couldn't decide which clip to include, so I just included them all! They are pretty short though, if you'd like to check them out! This is especially for Aunt Debby who tried to watch the simulcast this morning but had computer issues. Boo!
This one REALLY made me tear up... I used to love this song when I was a little girl. To hear my little guy singing it made me smile, too! (Aunt Debby- make sure to make it to the middle of this one... Aaron really lets loose!)

Oh, the itchies (and the wigglies!) You can tell in this video, Aaron's eczema is flaring up and took over at points in the production! Poor guy...

It's interesting to me that in a room full of dozens and dozens of kids, that I could still hear ONLY Aaron's voice! I love being a momma!

Because everything was supposed to be a surprise for moms and dads, we didn't know how he knew "God Bless America...." the other day. Ahh, now we get it....

This is just cool...

So, my somewhat tech-literate hubby made the suggestion that they do a live web simulcast of Aaron's class' preschool graduation tomorrow morning, and it's happening! Hoorah! I'm excited that grandmas, grandpas, aunts, and uncles can see our little sweetie doin' his thing even though they are far away. In case any of you are going through Aaron withdrawal, 9:30 AM EST tomorrow, assuming all the equipment is working properly, you can check it out at http://www.kingsworldrocks.com/weecherub/graduation.

Mr. Big Stuff!

Aaron has had a BIG week... full of BIG steps (starting last Thursday!) Last Thursday night, he had another t-ball practice and was SO thrilled that he was able to slide and ended up with dirty pants (okay, so it was more like falling and rolling in the dirt, but if he wants to call it sliding, I'll just agree with him at this point!) Let the dirty sports laundry begin!!!Last Friday morning, Aaron's class did the sweetest Mother's Day program... it warmed my heart and when I can get to it, I'll try to post some video from the morning! Precious! Here is Aaron and his teacher, Mrs. Perrello. Singing out with his buddy, Emma...
Nothing much cuter than preschoolers trying to patient as they wait for the program to start...
It was also a BIG week as Aaron received his first-ever report card. After the events of parent teacher conferences last fall, I wasn't excited and thrilled to realize that I was handed a report card. However, I was thrilled and more than pleasantly surprised. How precious is this... the teacher's words:
"Aaron adjusted quickly to his new environment! He is a delightful boy, very responsible, and eager to participate! He is quick to apply spiritual knowledge to our conversations. Aaron will do well in kindergarten!"
Yippe! Of course, it felt wonderful to read those words. However, even if the words weren't so wonderful, we are incredibly proud of our kiddo. We've already started a new tradition: EVERY report card day, regardless of the outcome, we're celebrating by going somewhere and doing something fun! This time.... it was ice cream at a new, phenomenal place called "DeeDee's." Yum! We feel like celebrating the accomplishment of growing up, moving forward, and FINISHING is terrific.... and doing something fun as a family (in spite of the outcome of the report card, if necessary!) is a sign of our unconditional love for our kids.
There was one more huge event over the past seven days: Aaron is all signed up and registered for kindergarten! AHHH! I can't believe it. As we took a little self-guided tour of the school, I was excited and in disbelief, all at the same time. Yeppers, my baby is going to kindergarten.... for FULL days.... starting next September. I will say that I totally enjoyed the registration time and got a great feeling about the school (you know how sometimes places just FEEL good? This was one of those times for me...) It's crazy to think that there are SEVEN kindergarten classrooms at his new school. Needless to say, I'm praying hard about who his teacher will be and attempting to fully surrender and trust God in the placement process!
He is excited. After we left, I told him that (if we don't move) he will be at this school for the next six years. He was thrilled with that thought and said, "I like it here. I want to come here for six whole years." I'm glad that he FELT good, too!

Interesting....

Pictures of these homes make me thankful for my own. Check 'em out HERE.

To do it myself?

Okay, so something is seriously wrong with this picture... it's 2:30 in the morning, and I'm online, checking out haircutting how-to videos, trying to decide whether or not to try to cut Isaac's hair myself. Ahh!?!?! I was sleeping peacefully when I was awakened by my crying toddler. Now, he is sleeping soundly, and I am not, of course (does that happen to you.... you wake up for them and then you're the one who can't ever get back to sleep?!!) Anyway, I tracked down this video.... now I'm debating. It was such a huge fiasco last time, I don't know what to do. Any words of wisdom from the parents out there who have had a 2-year old who screams like a madman whenever he faces a haircut? Also, if you ever cut your kiddo's hair yourself, any words of wisdom on that?

(I've already looked... there aren't any of those super-de-duper kid friendly places here... you know, the ones with kids' DVDs playing where they sit in a racecar to get a cut!!! Darn!)

The Weekend in Pictures (part 2!)

Scott's mom and dad came for Mother's Day and to celebrate Isaac's birthday. It was another fun weekend, full of activity!

Seriously, if you ever have the opportunity to get one of these chocolate/buttercream/full of yummy-ness cakes from Concannons Bakery in Muncie, Indiana.... do it!!! Oh my goodness...Grandma and Grandpa got Isaac some cool shades for his birthday... he loves 'em...... and Aaron loves his, too! (notice Isaac's Donald Trump comb-over.... nice.... I just can't get myself geared up to try another haircut quite yet since the last time was such a nightmare....)

Uncle Kenny, Aunt Jill, and Lainy sent Isaac this fantastic travel aquadoodle... he loves it!Lots of fun hitting and pitching in the yard...

As mentioned in a post this weekend, we made a trip to Canada for lunch and to see the Falls (from the van this time.... parking was $14, and we didn't think it was worth it this trip for no longer than we were going to stay).
This picture was taken just after the "God Bless America" ordeal... :)
Happy Mother's Day... Grandma with the boys! The neighbors were kind enough to give Aaron a kite... he had a blast with it (he's flying it in this picture.... really!) Happy Mommy's Day to me... I'm lovin' this picture... look at how sweet my boys are!

Happy Mommy Day!

I must say.... I love being a mother, but I LOVE being a "mommy" even more (yes, I think there is a difference at this stage in the game). It's been a good day.... a day where I felt treasured, even in the midst of folding socks and undies and loading the dishwasher one more time (truly.... a momma's work NEVER ends!)

I did give myself a little treat and catch up on the blogging world a bit.... I was completely blessed by Beth Moore's blog today as well as what her daughter, Amanda, had to say about her as well. If I can have HALF this perspective on mothering and my kids say things HALF as nice as this about me someday, I think that I can count myself as a blessed, effective, and grace-filled momma (sidenote: even if you decide not to read this whole post, make sure you read the story about James McDonald.... completely challenged and blessed me!)

First, from Beth's blog:

"I love the fact that our blog is for anybody who will give us the privilege to serve her, whether single, married, divorced, or widowed. I try not to overdo the wife and mother thing because our single siestas bring something so important to this mix but on this day everybody understands. So with your permission, I just want to say that I love being a mother. I’ve never had a harder job but I have never done anything in the human realm that gave me more sustained joy. My parenting days won’t be over until my days are completely over but here are a few things I’ve learned along the way – and many of them from making mistakes and getting to try again:

*Kids are pretty danged resilient. Ours survived some rough times but knew their struggling parents – fighting so hard for wholeness – loved them like crazy (and sometimes just loved them crazy) and were steadily trying to get healthier and healthier. When Keith and I each came to conclusions that we were messed up enough to mess them up, we went to counseling. The girls knew it and respected it.

*They don’t expect their parents to be perfect but they sure as heck expect them to be real. They despise hypocrisy and disrespect what is disrespectful even if they’re too scared to say so. They respond well to genuine apologies and, in fact, don’t learn to extend them otherwise.

*They need lots and lots of hugs and kisses even if they act like they don’t. They need to be told “I love you so much” over and over even if they don’t seem to be listening. They are. Don’t just give in to a sullen child and become sullen with him/her. Some kids have everything to lose if you let them win. Keep fighting for a relationship and try to take interest in their interests and sooner or later, they’ll cave in and smile. I respect few parents on earth more than Dr. James McDonald (pastor of Harvest Bible Chapel in the Chicago area) and his wife, Kathy. When one of his kids became a teenager, he felt an unfamiliar distance grow between them. He became so worried when it persisted that he told his church he was going to need to take some time off and wasn’t sure how long. With Kathy’s blessing, he told the teenager to pack a bag and get in the car with him. He drove out of the driveway, and took off on a road trip, explaining to the child that they’d return when their relationship was mended. Needless to say, after some very awkward hours, they ended up talking, crying, laughing, and making memories that they’ll have for a lifetime. Now, that’s some fine parenting.

*They need to laugh a ton with their parents and be silly. There need to be lots of private jokes that only family understands. When both girls married, those were the things they recalled to their daddy and me most.

*They need to know that God is not just the Boss. He’s the biggest blast in all of life. They love to learn the wonders of God in creation. Things like how He made a bumble bee to fly even though it’s aerodynamically impossible and how animals exist in Africa and Asia that we’ve never even seen in a zoo. They long to be taught simple pleasures that cost nothing more than a moment of time away from the TV, computer or cell phone – like marveling at a sunset or applauding God over a sunrise and clipping roses from a bush and putting them in a vase. Or watching rolly-pollies. Digging up earthworms. Fishing for a perch. Beholding a lady bug on a tree trunk. That all of these things are wonders of God and that He’s worth jumping up and down over.

*They need to know the beauty of Christ when they’ve done something wrong and feel guilty. They need to know that they have a destiny; that Christ planned their lives for this exact time in history and has given them gifts to discover and develop as they grow up. That they are important because He’s so important. That nothing so bad can happen to them that He can’t use for good. That Mommy and Daddy can’t make them Christians. They have to accept His free gift of grace and invite Him into their hearts. That we think nothing is worthier of celebration than that and we’ll risk throwing out backs out to do cartwheels when they let Christ do something wonderful in their lives.

*They need their parents to follow through. To say “no” when “no” needs to be said. They need their parents to be parents at the risk of being very unpopular. They need parents to intervene in an unhealthy relationship with the opposite sex. They need not to be given so many material things (even if we can afford it) that they grow into discontented, narcissistic adults. Nothing is less pleasant than a thirty year-old brat.

*And when they become parents, they don’t need their parents to turn their noses up at them and act all pious like they never lost patience with their kids. They know better anyway. They don’t need parents to forget how hard having preschoolers was and tell them, “These are the best years of your life!” No, these are the most exhausting years of your life. Wonderful! But exhausting! They need us to maybe chip in and pay for them to get their houses cleaned from top to bottom every now and then rather acting like we wish they were better housekeepers.

*Their friendships with their siblings need to be high priority. This one I blew so I share it with you as a regret. I regret allowing them to bring friends along so often on family outings. Yes, they begged but I wish I’d more often said “no.” Yes, they’d of pouted. But they also would have gotten over it and turned to each other. We always had their friends around and I think it may have kept my girls from making good friends of each other for a very long time. Don’t misunderstand what I’m saying. I think it’s also really weird when parents severely restrict the home to family and don’t encourage their kids to make friends and get involved at school. Me? I think they’re hiding something. There’s something really freaky and cultish about sequestered homes. At the very least, kids don’t end up developing social skills and, instead, become really bazaar adults that can’t get a normal job. Sorry. My point is, I think there should be a pretty steady dose of activity just for family so kids have to play with each other instead of ganging up on each other with their peers. I believe in having a revolving door to my children’s friends and having tons of spend-overs but I am convinced that I allowed it so often that my kids made better friends than each other. Our best memories are from family vacations where Amanda and Melissa were all they had. Joyfully, they are best of friends today but it’s because, when they moved to different cities, they learned that nobody is like your sister. Take it from me. I have one sister that I never lay eyes on. Don’t even know for certain where she is. Doesn’t sober up enough to have a conversation. Let alone a relationship. I miss her so much. We were inseparable growing up. You feel incomplete when you’re out of sorts with a sibling. They’re too much a part of who you are. No one should be a better friend than your sister.

*God gives lots of grace to parents. Good thing, huh? Let me offer you some encouragement based not only on my experience but that of many other people I’ve known. If you give a rip and try a flip, this whole parenting thing often turns out so much better than you thought it would. Sometimes you can’t even believe that’s you your kids are talking about. You realize they forgot some things. And now you need to, too. Praise You, Lord, for parenting mercies."

Don't ya just LOVE that?!!

So.... here is what her daugher, Amanda, had to say about her mom:

"I could never put into words exactly how thankful I am for my own mother. Many people look at her and see a Bible teacher, an author, someone who you might see on TV wearing a cute Jacket and praying in a sweet Southern accent. I love that person very much, but not as much as I love the woman who is my mother. If people stopped reading her books or attending her conferences, if her name became reviled across America, I'm telling you I would still be every bit as proud of my mother as I am today. I'd still want to be just like her. She has heard me say this before, but my sister and I would tell you that as good as she is at teaching and writing, she is even better at being a mom. Mom, you are a phenomenal woman. Thank you for always giving us 100% of yourself. In my journal this morning I thanked God for your wisdom, your love for Him, for what a good wife you are to Dad, for your generosity, your compassion, your ability to filter everything through God's grace and mercy, your intelligence, your patience, and your amazing work ethic. Thank you for loving me and for teaching me how to love my God, my husband, and my child. I'm proud to be your kid."

To my mom: I love you and have thought of you often throughout the day. Wish I could've been there to give you a hug... AND make you some chicken noodle soup to help you feel better. See you soon... miss you like crazy!

Another funny from Aaron...

Okay, at the risk of this being one of those "I guess you had to be there...." moments, thought I'd share a quick story....

We are having a fabulous weekend with Scott's parents. It's been gorgeous today, so we thought that we'd head to Canada for lunch and to see the Falls. It was a great visit... we had a great lunch at TGIFridays and then decided to take a stroll down the strip. After a quick visit to one of the MANY souvenir shops with horrendous t-shirts (UG!) I decided to take Aaron outside. When we started our stroll again, Aaron started singing, "God Bless America" at the TOP of his lungs.... no joke (and completely unprompted by us... he had seen the US and Canadian flags in the store... to which he said, "Hey Daddy, look... the flag of the United States and the flag that the girl sung to at the Bandits game, too"-- they do both anthems at Lacrosse games).

Anyway, back to the story.... In Canada, singing "God Bless America" at FULL volume.... folks, I didn't even know that he knew that song.... however, now ALL of the tourists in Canada know that my child knows it, too. But.... all is well.... we didn't get shot by the locals.... just a few odd looks!

"Stand beside her, and guide her............"

Conversations with a 5-year old...

On the way to school today, I had a great conversation with Aaron. It went something like this...

A: Mommy, when I grow up, I've decided that I want to marry Maddy.
Me: Oh really.... (long pause).... so, what about Maddy is so terrific that makes you want her as your wife?
LONGER PAUSE....
A: She has BEAUTIFUL hair (emphasis on every syllable of BEAUTIFUL!) And I like that she likes the color pink.
THE LONGEST PAUSE (as I decided to turn this into a bit of teaching moment and NOT laugh out loud....)
Me: You know buddy, when Mommy decided to marry Daddy, I picked him because he is kind, patient, compassionate, and loving. But most of all, because he loves God.
A: MOM (quite annoyed... turning the word "MOM" into a two syllable word!).... Maddy has ALL of those things, too.

Gotcha. Well, I'm glad we've got it all figured out, and that I already know who my future daughter-in-law will be. Maybe I should treat her to a pedicure next week to get to know her better.

Doing the right thing, at the right time...

I saw this on a friend's blog (thanks, Anne!) and absolutely loved it.... a glimpse of truly great sportsmanship.... yep, that made me cry!

Thankful Thursday

Today, I am thankful...

1) That my hubby was home this morning! He actually has a late meeting tonight, so I probably won't see him until after bedtime, but it was nice to have him around earlier!
2) For all the fun things that Isaac is saying these days. He's at that perfectly fun stage where he says new words all the time, and you think, "I didn't know he knew that word!" A fun little story from the morning.... I went into get him first thing this morning (he's gotten into the bad habit of waking up around 6:00 AM.... are you kidding me?!! Needless to say, I'm NOT thankful for that.... but I'll have to save those choice words for another post! HA!) Anyway, after I finished changing his diaper, he said, "Daddy, work?" In other words, "Mother, I would like to see my Father this morning. Is he, by chance, still in our residence or has he already left for his place of employment?" Yep, Daddy was the first thought on his mind this morning!
3) For the fact that the builder told me that we're third in line to get our yard re-seeded so HOPEFULLY, we'll be working on a real lawn by sometime next week or the following! Hoorah for grass!
4) That we have more visitors this weekend!!! Scott's parents will arrive tomorrow afternoon!
5) For THIS child... and THIS story... and THESE picture...
So, last night we all went to Aldi together (maybe I should be thankful for that... it was actually a fun outing, for the most part!) On the way home, Scott said, "Do you smell something fruity?" Yes, I did so I started looking for the culprit... and turned around to see this (yes, that is Strawberry Chapstick). Scott and I could barely contain our laughter but knew that we HAD to so that we could get a picture before Aaron started wiping it off. So, I took the pictures, then, led Aaron to a mirror. He said, "Wow, I didn't know it looked like that!" Anyway, the quote of the evening that caused me to nearly wet myself.... Scott said, "Well hey, maybe he's just getting ready for clown ministry!"

Thoughts for today...

Well, it's no secret to my blog readers that I've jumped head-first into a journey called Dangerous Surrender. I'm taking steps to become a member of the "Seriously Disturbed, Gloriously Ruined Club" (you'll have to read the book to figure out what I'm talking about).

While there are hundreds of Kay Warren's quotes that I could share that have challenged me and convicted me, this one jumped off the page... take a breath (really...):

"In what ways are you allowing God to rearrange your schedule, your finances, your affections, so that you can regularly interact with those he loves? Perhaps you give money to a church or a charitable organization-- it's a great beginning step, but it's not enough. Giving financially loosens the grip of materialism and selfishness that we all struggle with, but it can be a way of QUIETING OUR CONSCIENCE WHILE KEEPING OUR DISTANCE from those in need. Can you point to the sick, the poor, the prisoner, the orphan, the widow, the immigrant you are personally ministering to in Jesus' name? If not, it's time to make some dramatic adjustments in your life" (p. 71).

Thankful Thursday...

Today, I am thankful...

1) That my precious, baby boy is turning 2 on Saturday! I feel SO blessed to be a mommy... sometimes, it is overwhelming to think about the fact that God handpicked me to be Aaron and Isaac's mom. Such a blessing...
2) That my Dad, Mom, and sister will be here tonight and stay for the weekend! YIPPE!
3) That Aaron has his first t-ball practice tonight. He is so very excited. It's interesting.... Scott and I both feel like we're jumping onto a raging river as this is our first step into the world of "extracurricular activities." BUT.... we are excited as we know that it will give Aaron an opportunity to meet other kiddos and (please, Jesus...) give US the opportunity to have a positive impact on other families.
4) For tulips.
5) That God allowed my path to intersect with a precious friend, Lizabeth. I received a call the other night, letting me know that this dear, sweet woman passed into the arms of Jesus this week. She was only 37, but her life was already a blessing to many, including mine. Such a sweet spirit... and while we were in Warsaw, my kids loved staying at Miss Libby's, too (she was always so generous towards us.... begging us to go out on a date so that she could keep the boys). My heart is aching for this precious family... and I am SO disheartened as she and her husband were planning to visit us here in just two weeks. However, I am thankful that I KNOW that I will see Libby again someday.... I am thankful that through Christ, we have TRUE hope!

I think I love this brave guy!
